Ghana Card is now used as e-passport in 44,000 Airports across the world
Ghana National Identity Card can now be used as e-passport across the world. The Card can now be used in 44,000 airports across the world.
In other words, every Ghanaian bearing it will be able to use it across 44,000 airports and across 197 borders.
It was introduced in 2018 by government of Ghana as a measure to digitize the economy. The Card is a unique biometric identification, which identifies all citizens. It has been accepted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). A ceremony was held in Canada on February 9, 2022 to officially recognize the card after it’s verification by the ICAO.
Holders of the Card outside the country are now permitted to book their flights with the card to Ghana.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Randsford Sowah recieved the token, signifying Ghana’s recognition by ICAO.
“For Ghanaians born living or born in the diaspora, holders of the Ghana Card can now be allowed to board any flight to Ghana without any visa requirement as we seek to give an inclusive Akwaba experience to all children and descendants of our motherland. This makes Ghana one of the few countries in the world where the National ID card also has an e-passport capability” Mr. Randsford Sowah said
